Beef Shin and Red Wine Pie Recipe (Homemade)
The family-favorite “Beef Shin Pie” recipe has been elevated by adding PairME’s “The Wine for Steak” as our secret ingredient.
Cook and Preparation Time: 7 hours
Serving Size: Medium (4 servings)
Ingredients
1kg Beef Shin (Beef Shanks), fat removed and cut into chunks
3 Cups PairME’s “The Wine for Steak” Red Wine (get it here)
2 Garlic globes (chopped)
6 Shallots (diced)
Small Fresh Thyme
Peppercorn (1tbsp)
Oil
Flour (4tbsp)
Puff Pasty (400 grams)
1 Egg (beaten)
Method
Marinate beef with garlic, thyme, peppercorns and PairME’s red wine in a bowl for 3 hours. Pat dry the beef and keep the liquid.
Pre-heat oven to 150°C. Pre-cook the beef by frying the meat in a large casserole, remove the meat when it turns brown (do not cook it on its own juice). Put the shallots into the casserole, stir until it caramelize then add the beef and the marinade liquid. Cover the casserole to cook and tender the beef for about around 3 hours.
Set the oven to 180°C and pre-pare the pastry (with your choice of thickness)
Fill the pie with the beef, brush egg around the rim then add the pasty on top. Trim the edges and brush more egg on the top cover and cook for 30 minutes until the golden.
Serve and enjoy with PairME’s “The Wine for Steak”
