Little Known Facts about PairME's "The Wine for Seafood"
The Wine for Seafood: What is Melon de Bourgogne?
What is Melon de Bourgogne?
The Melon de Bourgogne grape used for our Wine for Seafood might be the only of its kind in your local wine store. The store clerk may say it’s like a Pinot Grigio or a Sauvignon Blanc, but it is entirely different as its truly only grown in its correct micro-climate in the Loire Valley where we source it from. It is not a name commonly heard or seen in America as its public appeal is low due to its complicated name. White wines have somewhat become basic across America – people try to stay too comfortable and stick to what they know. But this grape produces one of America’s most popular wines, Muscadets.
How we Sourced it
Our Melon de Bourgogne sourced from the western terroirs along the Loire Valley are the optimal conditions for this grape and for it being the ultimate wine for Seafood. In Nantes & its surrounding towns this is the only grape variety that is drunk to pair with Seafood meals. All other grapes are simplistic but make for commercial hits around the world. Yet, if you are reading this you clearly have a deeper interest in doing things the right way. What makes it so perfect to be paired with seafood is that it brings balance, with its high acidity to break down omega-3 oils in seafood and its ability to hold its ground against vinegar or high acidity dressings as well. Our Melon de Bourgogne may be a mouthful to pronounce but who cares when you are pairing it with a mouth full of seafood.
